June 2003 CPMC to Close Traffic Lane One Year One lane of Buchanan Street between Sacramento and Clay – and the sidewalk and parking -- will soon close for one year as California Pacific Medical Center installs a new linear accelerator beside its main hospital building. The device is used by the radiology department. Shielding requirements are responsible for the lengthy installation process. When installation is completed, nothing of it will be visible. The hospital’s other plans remain unsettled. CPMC has taken an option on purchase of the Cathedral Hill Hotel for possible use as an acute care facility when the Buchanan campus moves to ambulatory care only. It was contemplated that acute care would move to the California Street campus, requiring some new construction there. Tanya Farrell, CPMC’s Community Relations executive, said
purchase of Cathedral Hill, which will be reviewed by directors
in August, might mean some downsizing of earlier plans for the
Buchanan-Sacramento-Webster-Clay block. |
