CPMC -- August 2009 Update on CPMC:

Reporting problems at the Pacific site:

Call 415 600 0837 if you have complaints about CPMC’s operations (traffic, noise, safety, etc.).  This is the best number to call for immediate action.  CPMC’s Security team is tracking all issues and contacting the responsible parties within CPMC.   When you call them, be sure to request that your call be logged in their Daily Activity Report to ensure a response and to help with monitoring incidents.

Alternate Contact: Paula Lykins, Community Relations Manager, 415-600-7482.  This is the best number if you have a repeating problem.

CURRENT OPERATIONS UPDATE:

Traffic Management:

CPMC has restricted deliveries to the Clay Street loading dock, with the street barricaded and no deliveries accepted in the evening or early morning hours.  This should have reduced noise during what should be quiet periods.  Please let us know if there are still problems with deliveries.

Buchanan/Clay intersection:

CPMC has again communicated with both CPMC staff and the companies that provide patient van services about problems such as double parking, obstructing crosswalks, and driving the wrong way on Clay St.  Please let them know if this is not working by calling 415 600 0837 to report problems when they occur.

CPMC has arranged with DPT to have directional arrows painted on Clay Street at Buchanan, in the hopes of stopping drivers from turning into the one-way street.   Painting should happen this fall.

Webster Street:

The loading zone (yellow) and handicapped (blue) parking spaces at Webster and Sacramento have been reorganized to make it easier for trucks to use the yellow curb zones for deliveries. This should reduce double parking and congestion.

CPMC is installing a camera to track Webster St traffic conditions.

LONG RANGE PLANNING:

Summary:  CPMC plans to build a large new hospital at Geary and Post (the site of the Cathedral Hill Hotel) and replace the existing St. Luke’s Hospital with a smaller facility.  When this is done (Jan, 2015?), the in-patient (acute care) services at the Buchanan St. (Pacific site) and California St. hospitals will be moved to the Cathedral Hill hospital.  Plans call for the Pacific site to be converted to outpatient services, and the California site to be gradually closed.

Because of the investment CPMC plans for St. Luke’s and the Cathedral Hill sites, very little demolition or construction activity is forecast for the Pacific and California sites until after those projects are completed (2014 or 2015?).  There will be some project work and refurbishment of neighboring buildings, but no major demolition or construction for the foreseeable future.

The details are outlined in CPMC’s Institutional Master Plan (IMP).

CPMC’s IMP is being reviewed: CPMC’s IMP is currently being reviewed by the San Francisco Health Commission and the Planning Commission.  The Health planning consultant (The Lewin Group) report to the Health Commission is available on the CPMC Neighbors group.   A Planning Commission hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 17.

CPMC’s EIR (Environmental Impact Report) Update:   The Planning Department held a public scoping meeting on June 9th, and the public comment period closed Friday, June 26.   We expect to see the Draft Environmental Impact Report in early 2010.

Both the IMP and the EEA can be downloaded from www.rebuildcpmc.org

Because CPMC’s activities impact many neighborhoods, we have set up a Google Group at http://groups.google.com/group/cpmcneighbors?hl=en where neighbors can find more information about CPMC’s planning effort and about neighborhood responses to these plans.  CPMC’s plans call for significant changes, and continued neighborhood engagement is needed to make sure the plans do not adversely influence our neighborhood.

Based on the March 27 San Francisco Business Times article funding for all new CPMC construction is on hold.  However, planning activities will continue.
