Presidio
Opposition to Over Development on the Main Post
Contemporary Art Museum of the Presidio
The next Presidio Trust Meeting meets as follows:
Main Post Planning Workshop: Transportation
Wednesday, April 22, 6:30 p.m.
Golden Gate Club, 135 Fisher Loop
In response to public requests for a different meeting
format, the Presidio
Trust will replace the April 16 meeting with a meeting on April
22 that
will provide an overview of the transportation issues being
analyzed
through the Main Post planning process. Staff will be on hand to
answer
questions about transportation issues.
There will be NO public meeting on Thursday, April 16.
Presidio Trust Board Meeting
April 7 at 6:30pm
Palace of Fine Arts Theatre
If possible, please attend the Presidio Trust Public Board
Meeting on April 7. If you cannot, please write/email The
Presidio Trust and Congresswomen Nancy Pelosi.
Nancy Pelosi, who influences appointments of new Trustees and
shapes legislation related to the Presidio, and the Trustees
must understand that a large majority of the public is against
these plans.
Why Latest Plans Still Not Right
The original, large, white, box-shaped Fisher Museum design
located at the top of the parade ground that was approved by the
Trust board members in early 2008, has been abandoned because it
jeopardized the National Historic District Landmark status.
The new designs are flawed because of the following:
Still attracting millions of new visitors WITHOUT adequate
public transportation
Still no proven solution for parking hundreds of cars, tour
buses and delivery trucks
Still no acknowledgment that Presidio's roadways can not
handle a huge increase in traffic -- the park is already very
congested on any given weekend
Still demanding a location that dominates the historic Main
Post and Parade Ground
Still jeopardizing the National Historic District Landmark
status of the Presidio
Still requiring the demolition of safe, family-friendly
recreation - the bowling alley
Still requiring the demolition of healthy, public recreation
- the tennis courts
Also.
Still not listening the City's offer to locate the museum
downtown near public transportation and other cultural
institutions
Still providing confusing and lengthy process with too much
paper for the public to digest
Still lacking cogent, intelligible need for the 200,000 sq'
of construction - there isn't any need expressed in the
documents
Still no acknowledgment of cumulative effects of the museum,
hotel and theatre changes plus the 400,000 people a year
expected to visit the Disney Museum that is already being built
